In which a private detective drives a Subaru 360 all over Japan.
Although the Subaru 360 appears in many Japanese films, it rarely has such a prominent role as in this film. That said - I didn’t really enjoy this film, although visually it is quite well made.
What I am curious about is why the Subaru 360 was chosen for this role. It’s not badass. But I don’t think it had a pitifully weak connotation it may have had if it were used in an American film from the same era. But I still wonder if it has some thematic significance, or if it was just used because it was one of the most common cars in Japan at the time.

Damn - after being in Japan for the first time last week, I understand why they used this car. Initial Kei car regs limited the engine size, possibly to this 360cc example. These tiny cars were used as police cars at some point ....
